Our goal is to make the very best caramel possible, using the purest, finest ingredients available. We have never added preservatives, artificial colors or artificial flavors to our caramel. When some of our customers expressed concerns regarding corn syrup we tested other syrups and found tapioca syrup made an even yummier caramel. We transitioned immediately.

Our caramel may contain ingredients produced with genetic engineering. In fact, less than 7% of the ingredients used in Béquet® Gourmet Caramel could contain GMOs.
GMOs have been identified by some customers as a concern. Two of our ingredients may contain GMOs. We sourced non-GMO versions of these ingredients and tried to substitute them in our recipe. Unfortunately, taste tastes showed that the results weren’t good. We diligently tried all non-GMO options but could not find an acceptable replacement. We even invested months in trying to make one of these ingredients ourselves! Replacing the two ingredients that may contain GMOs was the largest new product development effort in our 16 year history! We were so disappointed that we have not been able to make a caramel as silky smooth, creamy, and delicious without these ingredients. As new options are identified, we will try them. We are committed to making the best caramel possible and look forward to our next break through allowing us to raise the bar once again.
Our caramel sauce is exquisite for seven months. Our caramel candy is exquisite for the first month and a half, and still very good for the next several months.
Fresher caramel is better. Caramel past the best if used by date might not taste as fresh or be as silky smooth. To extend freshness, refrigerate or freeze our caramel in tightly closed bag.
All varieties of Béquet Gourmet Caramel are made with Tapioca Syrup.
Milk: All varieties of Béquet Gourmet Caramel contain milk.
All varieties are made in a facility that does NOT process any types of nuts, and are Certified Gluten Free.
Corn: In 2012, we switched from Corn Syrup to Tapioca Syrup. The fructose currently used in our product is derived from corn. We have been working diligently for numerous years at trying to replace this fructose. Despite experiments with replacement sugars, we have been unable to reproduce our smooth, creamy texture. We are continuing to actively work on this. Corn Fructose represents 3.9% of our caramel.
